FOR a couple in their 90s, Ernie and Lily Witcomb do not take life lying down.
They have just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary and are still making plans for the future.
Their lives together have always been about bicycles; they even left St Peter’s Church in Forest Hill after their wedding in 1940, under an arch of bicycle wheels.
Mr Witcomb, 91, has been in the bicycle business since 1949, following in his father’s footsteps and hand-building specialist lightweight bikes.
The couple’s son Barry, 66, also followed into the family business.
They have lived in Okehampton Crescent, Welling, for more than 60 years, after meeting at a New Year’s Eve party.
Despite their ages, Mrs Witcomb will be 96 this year, the couple are making plans for 2012 Olympics.
Mr Witcomb was an Olympic official the last time the Olympics were held in London in 1948, when he helped oversee the cycling road race.
Now he has put his name down as a volunteer for the 2012 Olympics and the couple hope to get tickets for the track races in the Olympic velodrome.
