YOUNGSTERS in Anerley enjoyed a royal visit from the Earl of Wessex to mark their school’s 70th anniversary.
Prince Edward spoke to teachers and pupils at Stewart Fleming Primary in Anerley yesterday (January 14) as part of the primary school’s birthday celebrations.
The school in Witham Road has experienced changing fortunes since it was deemed to warrant special measures by Ofsted in February 2008.
Last year, staff and pupils were praised by government inspectors for their efforts in turning the school around, with the school being deemed 'good with some outstanding features'.
The Queen's son also watched the unveiling of a new teaching block at the school.
Headteacher Lee Mason-Ellis said: “This was a great day for all of us at Stewart Fleming.
"Not only are we marking our school’s 70th anniversary and our new teaching block, we are also celebrating the successful journey we have undertaken in the last 20 months."
