COMPUTER users are being told they face court action if they illegally download music files.
The warning has been given by trade body the British Phonographic Industry (BPI).
The BPI says swapping songs online is hurting the music industry financially and a new instant messaging campaign on the internet will be used to warn users they are obtaining music illegally.
Figures show eight million people in the UK are downloading music, with 92 per cent of these doing so unlawfully.
However, it may take more than threats to stop the rush of illegal file sharing.
