The Farnborough Village Fair was held in early September and several members manned a stall offering homemade cakes, jams and garden produce. The afternoon was a complete success resulting in all items from the eye catching display being sold. On a recent outing to the Churchill Theatre members thoroughly enjoyed the production of Blood Brothers with its emotional and also humorous storyline.
Members’ September meeting was well attended and a welcome was given to five new visitors. Their guest speaker, Tony Trinnick, was invited to talk about his hobby of bee keeping.
It was a fascinating subject and they heard that as many as 80,000 bees can live in one hive, producing as much as 120 lbs of honey.
The hives contain only one queen bee with approximately 60,000 worker bees and 20,000 drones. The worker bees, which produce the honey, are all female and live for about 6 weeks, whereas the queen will live for 3-5 years. The drones are the male bees and will swarm with the queen bee to start a new hive. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 2.00 pm in Farnborough Village Hall. Visitors and new members warmly welcomed. For further information please contact 01689 820541.
