‘What’s on the Cards’ the title of the power point presentation given by Mr Alan Payne proved a fascinating talk covering the history, fortune telling and conjuring magical mystique to be found in a pack of playing cards. The development from a tall thin card on bone in the 13c in China to the present day pack of cards and the reasons behind the formation of a pack was full of interest. Whilst one will be tempted to observe the cards and their special features one must not get distracted from the game in hand. An excellent evening.
Another fascinating talk was by Mr Neil Arnold covering the Kent Big Cat Research and the sightings of a medley of large animals that wander in the wilds of our counties. Evidence has been collated from paw prints, livestock kills, fur samples and video footage. In addition to his book ‘Mystery Animals of Kent’ Mr Arnold has worked with the BBC, ITV and Sky and national and international radio.
By contrast in addition to our interesting talks we have recently arranged in-house events. A light meal and social evening was held in September and in October we will enjoy a performance by our local Drama Group.
