A COUNCIL says Olympic shooting events in Woolwich will be an "unforgettable" experience.
Last week the London 2012 Olympic board announced the Royal Artillery Barracks would host shooting events in three years time.
Greenwich Council leader Councillor Chris Roberts said: "We have said all along that Woolwich is the ideal venue to host the shooting events.
“The Barracks are a truly iconic location which will provide spectators at the event and television viewers across the world with an unforgettable experience."
He added: “Woolwich’s links with the Royal Artillery dating back to the eighteenth century, together with its role as home to the Royal Arsenal, once the largest armaments factory in the world, make Woolwich the ideal place to celebrate the skills and sportsmanship of shooting.
“We look forward to receiving the planning application which will ensure that the council and the local community can have input to the detailed plans for the site.”
