THE Royal Artillery Barracks has been confirmed as the venue for Olympic and Paralympic shooting.
After months of arguing over the suitability of the venue for the 2012 events, the Olympic board has decided Woolwich will host the competitions rather than Barking - the spiritual home of shooting.
Meanwhile the board has also agreed a proposal to use existing facilities at Wembley Arena for badminton and rhythmic gymnastics rather than build a temporary venue on the north Greenwich peninsula.
Just days ago Mayor of London Boris Johnson reversed his proposal to move the Olympic shooting events to Barking.
He had previously claimed holding the events there would save around £10m.
But Greenwich and Woolwich MP Nick Raynsford led a campaign called Gunning for Woolwich claiming there was no evidence to back up this figure.
He said abandoning the plans would hit the regeneration of the area’s economy.
