BABY P’s killers, including Bromley man Jason Owen, are bidding to have their prison sentences slashed.

Owen, of Wittersham Road, Bromley, was given an indeterminate sentence in May after being found guilty of causing or allowing the death of Baby Peter.

The 37-year-old was told he must serve a minimum of three years.

Baby P's mother, 27, was given an indefinite sentence with a minimum term of five years after pleading guilty to causing or allowing her son's death.

Her boyfriend, 32, was jailed for life with a minimum of 10 years for raping a two-year-old girl.

He was also given a 12-year term to run concurrently for his "major role" in Peter's death.

The sentences brought widespread criticism from children’s charities and the Attorney General Baroness Scotland considered referring the jail terms to the Court of Appeal on the grounds they were “unduly lenient”.

But she later concluded it was unlikely their sentences would be increased and the appeal was dropped.

The three are now going to the same court in a bid to get their sentences reduced.

Baby Peter, from Haringey, died in August 2007 with a catalogue of injuries which included a broken back, fractured ribs and a missing tooth.

At the Old Bailey trial last year the jury heard from the pathologist who performed Peter’s post-mortem examination.

Professor Rupert Risden, told the jury there was “no natural explanation” for the severe injuries which led to his death.

He said the baby’s broken back was so severe that it had “opened like a hinge”.
