BEXLEY and Bromley councils are joining forces to share their financial knowledge, expertise and staff.
The councils have just signed a formal ground-breaking agreement which will initially involve eight staff, but this can be expanded to involve more people as the arrangement develops.
Bexley and Bromley have been talking about setting up a shared service since 2007 but took it no further because there was a chance a London-wide system was going to be introduced.
During their talks, Bexley says it became clear a shared service would not only pool their knowledge and share expertise, but also save them money.
The initial savings for each council this year will be £25,000 but this could grow as the system expands.
Their agreement could also be expanded to take in other councils.
