CHANGES have been made to the planned redevelopment of an historic market.
Naval charity Greenwich Hospital, which owns Greenwich Market, has made the alterations following a public consultation held in April.
Plans include restoring the historic buildings around the market and building a 100-bedroom hotel, new roof, more shops and improved pedestrian access.
Under the altered plans, the market’s cobbled floor will now be kept with plans to have it raised and relayed, interspersed with blocks of granite.
And, following concerns over the loss of buildings on Durnford Street, Greenwich Hospital intends to try and keep some of the brickwork and building materials from them for re-use.
Director of Greenwich Hospital martin Sands said: “The market regeneration is designed to respect the World Heritage Site, retain the character of the Market and encourage retail diversity and independent businesses.”
