POLICE have launched a series of summer events designed to keep youngsters out of trouble during the holidays.

Summer Rush is a new scheme running until August 21 organised by Lewisham police's Rushey Green safer neighbourhoods team.

Youngsters, aged 12 to 19, have already taken advantage of a police picnic and go-kart racing, while tomorrow there are sailing lessons at the Ahoy Centre in Borthwick Street, Deptford.

Everyone involved in the Summer Rush programme will be invited to take part in a talent show featuring music, dance and drama performances on the scheme's final day.

PC Emma Wells, who organised the programme, said: “Youth anti social behaviour is a ward priority and sometimes there can be problems over the school holidays, so providing young people with positive activities to get involved in at this time is important."
