DARTFORD COUNCIL has launched an online guide to help disabled people get out and about.
The council has teamed up with disability organisation DisabledGo and more than 900 shops, pubs, restaurants and theatres so that people with disabilities can find out if their requirements are catered for.
By visiting disabledgo.info, people can check whether a pub is accessible to a wheelchair user, if a cinema offers a hearing loop, a hotel offers adapted rooms or a restaurant has menus in large print or Braille.
The founder of DisabledGo and wheelchair user, Dr Gregory Burke, said: “Never knowing whether a building will be accessible or whether staff will have a helpful attitude makes you think twice before going out.
“DisabledGo ends that uncertainty by providing detailed access information and enabling people to judge for themselves whether a shop, restaurant or theatre is accessible for their own requirements.”
