TEEN pregancy rates in two boroughs are some of the highest in the capital, it has been claimed.
The report by the London Assembly shows that one in 13 teen girls in Lewisham falls pregnant.
Pregnancy rates across the capital, based on figures from 2007, are far higher than the national average, the report found.
In Lewisham nearly 71 girls in every 1,000 aged from 15 to 17 became pregnant, the third highest rate in London.
Greenwich had the fifth most teenage pregnancies in the capital, with 65 girls in every thousand falling pregnant.
This compares unfavourably with boroughs like Bexley and Bromley where pregnancies were at 38 and 34 per 1,000.
Chairman of the health and public services committee James Cleverly said: “Our most recent investigation shows that young Londoners’ sexual health remains worryingly poor.
“More must be done to reverse this trend.”
The London teenage pregancy average is London 4.6 per cent compared to 4 per cent nationally.
