WORK on gas mains will see road closures and traffic diversions in the Echo Square area of Gravesend until the end of November.
At the end of last month, Southern Gas Networks (SGN) began a £170,000 scheme to replace 700m of old metallic gas mains with plastic pipes expected to last 80 years.
Warning signs will be in place for the duration of the work to let motorists know which route to take, while access to homes will be maintained and shops will be open as usual.
SGN team manager Craig French, who is overseeing the work, said: “We have been working closely with Kent Highway Services, Gravesham Council and the emergency services to minimise inconvenience to road users, businesses and residents.
“We understand people can get frustrated by roadworks but this is essential work that will produce a long-term safe and reliable gas supply for this part of the town.”
