PEOPLE are being advised to give their views on the future of south east London’s Green Chain.

Representatives from Greenwich, Bexley, Bromley, Southwark and Lewisham have drafted a management plan setting out a range of targets to be acheived by 2014.

The chain runs from Erith to Crystal Palace and includes scores of ancient woodlands, historic parks, commons, heaths, farmland and recreation grounds.

In Greenwich, the route runs from Mottingham all the way up to Woolwich and Thamesmead.

It takes in places including Avery Hill Park, Fairy Hill, Charlton House, Severndroog Castle and Woodlands Farm.

In a 50-point plan to promote and improve the way the chain is managed, the partnership suggests a regular newsletter to increase community involvement and help publicise the annual walking festival.

Members also want to attract further funding for the route, along with increasing the chain’s use as an educational resource for schools and colleges.

Chairman of the Green Chain joint committee Councillor Mary Mills said: “The chain has links to other networks of London footpaths and the way we run it affects a wide area.

“It’s important that local people make the effort to give their views on how local authorities use them as a resource for walking, recreation and education.”
