GREEN-fingered youngsters from across Bexley have been picking up their prizes in this year’s Bexley in Bloom schools’ competition.
A total of 21 schools entered their garden, widlife garden or vegetable plot into the contest, and each was visited by judge David Thomas, Bexley Council’s acting parks development officer in June, before the winners were chosen.
St Peter Chanel Catholic Primary School, Foots Cray, won the top prize for its school garden, receiving a gold award and £65 worth of vouchers from Ruxley Manor Garden Centre.
Bursted Wood Primary School, Bexleyheath, came second and received vouchers worth £40 and Hook Lane Primary School, Welling, got £20 of vouchers for third place.
Hook Lane picked up first prize for their vegetable plot and scooped another £30 voucher, with Dulverton Primary School, Sidcup, taking £20 for second place and Foster’s School, Welling, taking third place and vouchers worth £10.
The wildlife garden at Danson Primary School, Welling, came first and won £30, with Hook Lane taking another £20 for second place and Holy Trinity CofE Primary School, Sidcup, in third place winning £10.
Bedonwell Infant and Nursery School, Belvedere, won £15 in vouchers for producing the heaviest pot of potatoes.
Orchard Primary School, Sidcup, came second winning £10 and Chatterbox Day Nursery, Blackfen in third place and winning £5.
