A GRANT from Bexley Council has funded the launch of an exercise and wellbeing programme for older people.

The ££15,700 cash has enabled the supported housing team at Orbit South housing association to create its Silver Exercise and Wellbeing (SEW) programme a series of free activity sessions for its sheltered housing residents.

But the plan is eventually to open up the sessions to anyone aged over 55, who lives in the borough.

Activities will offer an alterative to tradition exercise programmes, and will include chair aerobics, tai chi and line dancing.

These will be coupled with informative talks on how to keep healthy and active.

The sessions, will be taken by qualified instructors.

Orbit South is currently negotiating for other sources of cash which will see the programme rolled out in the autumn.
