PASSERS-BY can now see the building progress of a new multi-million pound council development.
The Woolwich Centre, which is due to open in 2011, is now starting to take shape with the giant nine-storey lift-shafts now clearly visible from the town.
When ready, Greenwich Council's information service building will include a new library, business centre, meeting space, cafe, bar, and a viewing platform out towards the river.
It forms part of an £800m project of town developments following the 2007 construction of the Eltham Centre in Archery Road and the new Greenwich Centre which will open after the Woolwich development.
A spokesman for Greenwich Council said: "It’s going to start taking real shape by the autumn of next year. Around 300 construction workers will eventually be on site, many of whom will be locals.
"Building work is taking place from 8am until 6pm on weekdays."
