A final blog....

................on MPs expenses (sorry to disappoint those of you who thought that “A final blog” was referring to something else!).

The latest news, revealing that our MPs have again stuck two fingers up to the great British public and made themselves even more unaccountable by doubling the amount of expenses that they can claim receipt-free, is absolutely shocking. We all knew they are corrupt and view themselves as above the law but this has taken their contempt for the voters to a different level.

Keeping the curtains closed and doors locked is never a good idea in government, as secrecy only encourages people to do things they would prefer others not to know about.

Well enough is enough. The time has come to take the decisions for MPs salaries and expenses out of their hands and pass it to an independent body. Openness is critical for accountability.
