SWIMMING 2.4 miles, cycling 112 miles and then running 26.2 miles - this was the gruelling challenge a social worker completed for charity.
Carrie Hague, of Bennett Way, Dartford, took part in the Ironman event in Klagenfurt, Austria, on July 5, finishing the triathlon in 13 hours and 41 minutes.
Through sponsorship, the 32-year-old has so far raised £1,250 for The Retreat Animal Rescue Centre, Daltons Road, Crockenhill, which cares for and re-homes animals ranging from dogs to ducks.
She said: “Prior to entering the Ironman, I had only completed short triathlons, and I wanted to challenge myself to do what is often referred to as the ultimate test of endurance.”
The married animal lover, who works for Kent County Council, added: “I chose to raise money for the rescue centre because it really is the last chance saloon for many animals that would otherwise be put down.”
