FORMER members of the Women’s Land Army and Timber Corps have been honoured at a special reception.
More 200 people attended the event at the Civic Centre in Bromley as Mayor of Bromley Councillor Douglas Auld paid tribute to guests’ dedication and commitment during and after the Second World War.
The work carried out by the Land Army and Timber Corps included ploughing fields, sowing crops and mending machinery with the aim of preventing food shortages.
By 1943, 80,000 women were in the Land Army and Timber Corps.
Cllr Auld, whose mother-in-law was among the guests honoured at the event on July 26, said: “The nation owes a huge debt of gratitude to the Land Army and Timber Corps, who worked tirelessly to keep the country going.
“The work was vital to the war effort.”
