A BENEFIT cheat has been ordered to do 100 hours community service after claiming almost £2,500 despite having a job.
Andrew Turner, of Christianfields Avenue, Gravesend, was sentenced at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (July 23) after pleading guilty to benefit fraud.
The court heard the 52-year-old failed to tell Gravesham Council and the Department for Work and Pensions he had found a part time job and continued claiming benefits.
He received £1,664 in unemployment benefit, £665 in housing benefit and £149 in council tax benefit - a total of £2,478 he was not entitled to.
The magistrates also ordered Turner to pay £100 in court costs.
