A STATE of the art building for youngsters with sight and hearing impairments has been officially opened.
Griffins, in the grounds of Darrick Wood School, Lovibonds Avenue, Orpington, includes the Merran Room where children can play and stimulate their senses with an array of sensory equipment.
The room was made possible thanks to fundraising efforts by a committee of parents including raising £16,500 from a five-a-side football tournament and £2,500 from a couple who climbed Ben Nevis.
A colourful sensory mural called A Celebration of our Wonderful World was also unveiled at the opening on July 16.
It was designed by artist Honor Pinner, who ran workshops with the children at Griffins and Darrick Wood to create the piece.
