THE first ever Tennis for Free tournament served up a treat for fans of the popular sport.
Tennis for Free has seen gates to some of the borough's tennis courts thrown open for just £12 per household.
The one-off charge buys players an electronic key allowing them access to courts in Croydon Road Recreation Ground, Beckenham; Kelsey Park, Manor Way, Beckenham, and Willett Recreation Ground, Crossway, Petts Wood.
As part of the initiative, Parklangley Club, a tennis centre in Wickham Way, Beckenham, held a tennis tournament at Croydon Road Recreation Ground on July 11.
The men’s singles competition saw Grzegorz Bryk beat Philip Barnell, while Nigel Pope and David Allison triumphed over brothers Philip and Alex Barnell in the men’s double final.
A spokesman for the club said: “We have been overwhelmed by the response to Tennis for Free and currently have over 1,500 families already registered.”
