A GROUP of traders in Welling, left out of a promotional shopping guide, have been promised they will be included in future publications.

Bexley Council published Welling Town Centre - A Specialist Shopping Guide, to boost the town’s fortunes during the recession and simultaneous temporary closure of the town’s two major supermarkets.

But businesses in part of Welling High Street and in Park View Road, say they were ignored when the guide was put together.

Alison Waite, from Valiant Lighting, of Park View Road, said traders chosen for the guide had been invited to contribute a small piece about their business.

She said: “Many other local traders who are suffering badly in the present ecomonic gloom would have welcomed the same opportunity to promote their business.”

Bexley Council says the shops chosen all fell within Welling’s “shopping area” defined by the council’s unitary development plan.

It said the guide was produced in consultation with Welling Town Partnership.

A council spokeswoman said: “We note some traders are disappointed and will ensure traders east of the town are included in any further general consultations and in any future publicity to promote the town.”
