COLLEGE girls took part in a building challenge to encourage more young women to work in the construction industry.

Lewisham College in Lewisham Way, hosted the Building Futures construction challenge on July 15 and 16.

Youngsters were taught the basics of construction in various workshops before designing and building their own mini house.

The event was attended by hundreds of girls from across the south-east of London.

Serena Mahmood, 14, from Catford High School, in Conisborough Crescent, said: “We all worked really hard together.

“I got to do the plumbing for the house. We put in a sink and working outside tap. Our house definitely looked the best!”
