MORE than 20 teams took to the pitch for the annual five-a-side football tournament in memory of an 11-year-old Erith schoolboy.
Karl Lewis died from a brain tumour in 2006 and ever since his family has been raising cash for the EllenorLions Hospices, which provided care at home for Karl and support for his family.
One of their fundraisers is the tournament, held at the Goals Soccer Centre in Graham Road, Bexleyheath, which provides the facility for free.
This year 23 teams took part, but the event was without a Charlton Veterans team who had to pull out because of injuries and holidays.
Abbey United, the winners for the past two years, reached the final again this year, but were beaten into second place by The Untouchables, in a 5-1 match.
The event raised £1,780.
The family is also planning a sponsored bike ride in September from Lands End to Erith and is looking for a local sponsor for its support van.
