POLICE are appealing for witnesses after seven young people were arrested in connection with two assaults in Gravesend.
A 41-year-old man was allegedly assaulted by a group of young people as he walked alone along an alleyway running from the clock tower area of the town centre to Harmer Street at around 10.50pm on July 3.
He suffered a broken jaw and a facial wound which needed stitching at hospital.
Two hours later, a 28-year-old Polish man was allegedly assaulted by a group of young people on a riverside walkway near Baltic Wharf.
Police have arrested five men and two women in connection with the alleged assaults, and have bailed them pending further inquiries.
Kent Police’s PC Geoff McCreery, who is investigating both attacks, said: “Both incidents were unprovoked and opportunistic. In neither incident was the victim robbed.
“However, they were nasty attacks which happened at a time when there would have been people making their way home from pubs and clubs in the town.
“I would ask anyone with information to get in touch.”
If you have information which may help police with their investigation, call PC McCreery on 01474 366091 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
