ELECTRICITY company EDF Energy says it has managed to restore power supplies to some areas, following a major electricty cut at lunchtime today.
However at 3pm thousands of people across the Bexley and Dartford areas were still without power after an underground electricity cable developed a fault.
An EDF Energy spokesman said: "Work is continuing to assess the fault to reconnect the remaining customers as swiftly as possible."
The power went down at 12.47pm today, affecting Bexleyheath, Barnehurst, Welling, Belvedere and some areas of Dartford.
The cuts have caused widespread difficulties.
Traffic lights have shut down; Cineworld in Bexleyheath was forced to ask filmgoers to leave and the lack of power has caused major problems in shops, offices and restaurants across the area.
A spokesman for EDF said: "Engineers are working to restore supplies as swiftly as possible.
"We would like to apologise to our customers for the inconvenience caused."
