A PENSIONER has been found dead after suffering fatal head injuries in a suspected murder.
Seventy-nine-year-old Edward Highwood was found in Hollymount Close, Greenwich, on Saturday (July 18) at around 3pm.
A nearby resident, who asked not to be named, said: “We saw the police arrive and they have been there for two days now.
"A couple of officers came to my house dressed in plain clothes.
"They said they suspected that it was a burglary gone wrong but I don’t know much more than that.
"The forensic people have been there for ages and I saw them tow a black car away from the scene.
“The ambulance pulled out of the road at about 10pm on Saturday. It was a private ambulance. It’s absolutely terrible."
Met police have set up an incident room and are appealing for witnesses to come forward with information.
Assistant detective inspector Steve Warrilow who is investigating the incident, said: "We must retain an open mind regarding any motive for the murder at this early stage, and are still trying to establish whether anything was stolen from the terraced house.
"Mr Highwood was last seen alive on Friday, and we wish to hear from anyone who saw him at any time that day or the day after.
"Similarly we need to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious in the vicinity of Hollymount Close on Friday or Saturday."
