OK, so he may look like a Pork Butcher, but don’t be fooled. Tim Godwin’s appointment to the second most powerful post in policing is a sign that things are looking up.
I’ve blogged before about the politicians masquerading as senior police officers at Scotland Yard – people who have no concept of real policing but are simply content to kiss a bit of political backside to promote their careers - but with the appointment of Tim Godwin it seems that common sense has finally prevailed.
Here is a man who has a proven track record and who has advanced his career on merit, hard work and no little success. He has not sold himself out to politicians or played the race/gender card to advance his career, unlike some of his less deserving senior colleagues at Scotland Yard. Forget the so-called ‘Glass Ceiling’, certain female top cops have taken the glass elevator to get to a level that their mediocre talents and career fraught with policing disasters do not deserve.
Now, all we need is for the Mayor of London to get rid of the current politician in the top job at Scotland Yard (again)................
