A MAN from Northumberland Heath has been charged with the murder of a three-month-old baby boy.
The man, aged 40, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was also charged with grievous bodily harm to the boy and the baby's twin sister.
Police were called to King's College Hospital in Denmark Hill on October 24 after the baby was brought in suffering from a serious head injury.
The baby died the next day and a post-mortem examination confirmed the cause of death as a head injury.
Checks were then carried out on the baby boy's twin sister who was also in hospital suffering from an unrelated condition.
An examination revealed she was recovering from what were believed to be non-accidental injuries caused by physical abuse.
As a result, on October 28, the man was arrested on suspicion of murder and GBH and released on police bail pending further inquiries.
A woman, aged 37, was also arrested on suspicion of GBH and allowing or causing the death of a child.
She was also released on police bail, but no further action is being taken against her.
The man was remanded in custody after appearing at Bexley Magistrates' Court today. He will next appear at the Old Bailey on October 21.
