A 21-YEAR-OLD Somalian has been found guilty of stabbing a man to death in a case of mistaken identity.
Hamouda Bessaad, a Tunisian who worked as a waiter in Blackheath, was attacked in Old Kent Road, Southwark, on June 30 last year.
Abdinasir Hassan, of no fixed address, mistook 34-year-old Mr Bessaad for an Algerian man who had forced him to leave an internet café.
He stabbed him in the back before running away.
Hassan denied murder but was yesterday (July 14) convicted at the Old Bailey. He will be sentenced on September 4.
Detective Inspector Sarah Rees, from the Met's homicide and serious crime command, investigated the murder.
She said: "Mr Bessaad was a hardworking man who had made his home in London but sent home money whenever he could to his family in Tunisia.
"All his colleagues and customers there were shocked by the murder of a man who they thought would have no enemies.
"Members of his family in the UK and in Tunisia have suffered intolerable grief since his life was taken.
"I wish to express my thanks to the people who came forward and gave evidence at the trial of Abdinasir Hassan, and pay tribute to the fortitude of Hamouda's family who have patiently waited for this day."
