CONSTRUCTION work has begun on seven energy efficent affordable homes.
The properties in Gallon Close, Charlton, are being built by developer Osbourne Homes on behalf of housing association Family Mosaic.
Insulated panels have been used to reduce energy demands and the amount of carbon emitted from the buildings.
Warm air heating and hot water will be provided by air source heat pumps and solar-powered roof tiles will generate renewable electricity.
Managing Director Peter Head said: “The fact that these are affordable sustainable homes demonstrates that the technology of energy efficiency is not cost prohibitive and we are pleased to be at the forefront of sustainable development in the inner city.
“This is the way forward for housing and we are delighted to share the commitment of Family Mosaic to provide high quality affordable homes.”
