COLLEGE girls will take part in a building challenge to encourage more young women to work in the construction industry.
Lewisham College in Lewisham Way, will host the Building Futures construction challenge on Wednesday and Thursday (July 15 and 16) which will be attended by hundreds of girls from across the south-east of London.
Youngsters will be taught the basics of construction in various workshops before designing and building their own mini house.
Construction tutor at the college, Erika Gaidule, said: “We hope to inspire and encourage young women into looking at the construction industry as a very real career choice.
"We are aware that construction is often seen as a male only occupation but in the 21st century women can and do work in this area.”
