YOUNGSTERS have been challenged to read their way through six books this summer.
Children aged from five to 12 will be able to visit their nearest library in Lewisham borough and start reading six or more titles as part of Lewisham Council’s summer reading challenge.
Every child who gets through all six will be given a certificate or medal.
The annual Lewisham Council challenge has a fantasy theme this year and youngsters can find links to top authors and illustrators on its website.
Last year 2,869 children from the borough took part in the challenge.
Lewisham Council’s cabinet member for community services Councillor Chris Best said: “This is a great way to keep children entertained over the holidays.
“More importantly, we know that children who take part read more books and read more widely than those who don’t, with potentially life-changing results.“ For more information visit readingagency.org.uk/children/summer-reading-challenge or call 020 8314 6399.
