FOR 25 years, three friends who are members of the Bromley Evening Decorative and Fine Arts Society have volunteered to the textile team at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich.

Betty Cornwell, June Langford and Joyce Owens use their sewing skills to make covers for the uniforms, which are an important part of the national collection. The staff of the National Maritime Museum were so impressed by the volunteers’ skills and their length of service, they recently recommended them for the Going the Extra Mile award at the London Volunteers in Museums Awards 2009.

While they did not win the top award, the society is very proud that its members service has been recognised.

Members of the society are delighted with their new website and more than a little proud to say that they have had a huge imput into its creation.

All the images used in the site have been provided by members from photos taken on tours or outings organised by the society. During the past year, members have been to a great variety of places including Krakow in Poland, Belfast in Northern Ireland, the Skinners Hall in London and Pugin’s House in Ramsgate and the opportunity has been taken to include photos from these events in the overall design of the site.

The site details the programme for 2009/2010.

At its core are the nine lectures which begin in October and continue to July with a break in January. Its design reflects the diversity of members interests while giving them the opportunity to comment on the lectures and other activities and to follow the links to current exhibitions and other cultural activities in the area.
