WORK will begin this month on an Olympic legacy project in Bexley.
The £3m project will transform Erith Yacht Club, based on the River Thames at Erith, into a community sailing centre.
A ground-breaking ceremony will launch the start of the construction work on a new land-based clubhouse to replace the former Norwegian car ferry which currently serves as the club’s headquarters, but offers only limited facilities.
The ceremony takes place on July 25, which will coincide with the club’s participation in London 2012 Open Weekend event.
The Royal Yachting Association will be at the club, off Manor Road, offering taster sailing sessions and there will also be dinghy and cruiser racing.
The event runs from 10am to 6pm.
