The Enchanted Forest scenery and backdrop declaring "Once upon a time in a kingdom far away" let the audience members know when the performance began they would be transported from Bromley's Churchill Theatre to Pantoland! Special effects, a laser-generated magic mirror and dramatic sets make this a special night out.
Most of all, it is the exuberance and enthusiasm of the cast which inspire the audience and provide fantastic fun and entertainment.
The stars shone. Linda Lusardi as the brilliantly-wicked Queen Lucretia took no time to insult our borough and its "ugly" women. This reviewer calls upon the good people of Bromley to see this show and jeer Lucretia to defend our honour!
Phil Lowen, as Muddles, provided most of the comic fun for the younger children. Dannielle Courtney-Smith was enchanting as Snow White, and from her first duet with Sam Kane as Prince Michael, we wanted them to fall in love. Of course, in fairytales if you wish for something it will come true.
There are old Panto clichs oh no there aren't! but they are not overdone and, if anything, it is more like a West End production than a pantomime.
The audience participated enthusiastically. When Lucretia offered Snow White the poisoned apple, children screamed: "Whatever you do don't touch that apple!"
Of course, she didn't take the advice but, as in all fairytales, there is a happy ending.
Sam Kane led the cast in an encore of Let Me Entertain You.
Don't worry Sam you did!
