Das war sehr komisch, Herr Cameron! Indeed it was. Those of us of a certain age remember countless World War II films where a German soldier has barked the immortal line “Show me your paper” in English, with a heavy German accent.

So to all bar the most humourless and miserable amongst us, what David Cameron did when imitating a German soldier was actually very amusing. It highlighted perfectly that we don't think that having to produce your ID on demand is a very British thing to do, contrary to what this Government of jack booted, authoritarian bully boys think.

My message to those who have had a sense of humour failure over this, and those pious hypocrites in the national media, is “Lighten up you miserable old sods”.
