TO RAISE funds for The Foundation for the Study of Infants Death in memory of his daughter who sadly died from cot death, Mike Kindler has embarked on various treks.
In an illustrated talk to members of the Hayes (Kent) Townswomen's Guild, he described his 100km walk in Vietnam in a humid 37C climate with a group of 26 people.
On arrival in Hanoi a long boat ride took them near to a village for the start of their walk through a variety of terrain with many inclines.
Their overnight stays during the course of the week were either in stilted or ground level barn-like structures with basic facilities such as a bucket of water for a shower.
Mr Kindler spoke about the village life, paddy fields and jungle full of large butterflies and wildlife he saw en route.
On returning to Hanoi with its French Colonial buildings, congested traffic and streets named after the products sold, it was a complete contrast to the surroundings on the trek.
The guild’s next meeting will be at 7.45pm on March 25 at the Rosary Catholic Church Hall, Hayes.
It will be the guild’s 51st birthday and following the general meeting, Ian Bevan will speak about Victorian London.
