This week there was some good news for football followers in the St. Paul’s Cray community who like their sport to be local…their local team is coming home.
As reported elsewhere in this weeks News Shopper, Cray Wanderers Football Club has announced that after many years of searching they have secured a 17 acre site upon which to build a new ground. Bordered by the A224, the A20, and Sandy Lane the site was chosen because of its transport links, the high visual impact the location has which will raise awareness of the club, and because it is away from residential areas.
Although there is still much work to be done the hope is that the new stadium will open its doors for the 2014-15 season. Club Chairman Gary Hillman believes the move to this location can bring sporting and employment benefits to the local community. That can only be good news for the people of St Paul’s Cray.
In an age when many football clubs are moving out of the community in which they were born, it is good to see one club doing the reverse. “Come on you Wands!”
