POLICE have moved in to close down a brothel being operated from a flat.

Officers from the Crayford Safer Neighbourhoods team took action following anonymous information from the public.

Tip-offs described unfamiliar faces entering and leaving the communal flats in Woodfall Drive.

Residents in the other flats said they felt unsettled and vulnerable.

When police moved in on the flat on January 7, they discovered it was being used as an illegal brothel, advertising a massage service.

A 29-year-old woman at the address was warned about the activities.

The landlord of the flat, who was unaware of the illegal use of his property, was ordered to terminate the tenancy agreement under section 33a of the Sexual Offences Act 1956.

The flat is now empty.

PC Katie Moore from the Crayford police team said: “We responded swiftly to the concerns of local residents and took positive steps to ensure the premises ceased to operate as a brothel.

“Residents can be assured that we will monitor the usage of the flat."
