A COUNCIL will decide whether to start consulting on closing a failing school this evening (Jan 20).
Charlotte Turner Primary School in Benbow Street, Deptford, was visited by Ofsted inspectors in November who judged it be inadequate in every area.
The school inspection body has recommended that it should be put in special measures.
Its report states: “Standards are exceptionally low and have been so for far too long.
“The lack of experience at all levels of leadership combined with the high turnover of staff and inadequate teaching, has resulted in almost all groups of pupils underachieving.”
The primary school was previously known as Hughes Fields Primary, which was itself closed in December 2002 after an Ofsted inspection and reopened as Charlotte Turner in 2003.
Greenwich councillors will decide whether to consult on closing the school from August 31 this year and whether to appoint an interim board in place of Charlotte Turner’s current governing body.
The cabinet meeting will be held at 7pm in Woolwich Town Hall, Wellington Street.
