A TEACHER who jumped off Kingston Bridge had suicidal urges, an inquest was told.
Andrew Underwood, aged 31, taught English and drama at Ravens Wood School, in Oakley Road, Bromley, prior to his death.
At the school’s summer concert, held at the end of term, music written by Mr Underwood, who lived in Casella Road, New Cross, was performed in tribute to the popular teacher.
Southwark Coroner’s Court heard how the body was found on the bank of the River Thames by police on March 24.
Pathologist Dr Peter Jarreat told the inquest alcohol was found in his blood.
In a written statement to the court Dr Kieran O’Flynn of Hampton Wick Surgery said Mr Underwood had wanted to throw himself off the bridge in both 1994 and 1995.
Dr Flynn said: “He has urges to jump in the Thames and required crisis emergency treatment.
“There was also a minor overdose attempt.” It was confirmed a suicide note had been found in his bedroom.
Coroner Selena Lynch recorded an official verdict of suicide.
Mr Underwood’s sister, Deborah Underwood said: “He had absolutely no reason to be stressed or depressed.
“He had a good job and everyone liked him.”
