IT WAS crunch time for some exhibitors when Hayes Horticultural Society held its annual chrysanthemum show at Hayes Village Hall on November 8.
This is the show in which those gaining the most points throughout the year receive their reward.
Doug Wingrave snatched by a whisker both the trophy for the vegetable classes as well the victory challenge bowl for the highest number of points overall.
He also won, by a much larger gap, the trophy for the flower classes.
With the some of the regular exhibitors competing in a major chrysanthemum event at Welling, it was left to Colin May to win a diploma for his spectacular Charm chrysanthemums.
Liz Clark picked up the cups for the most points in both the floral art and domestic classes, again both closely contested.
Elizabeth Kelly emerged as the junior champion in the children’s classes, winning the Halligan trophy and another for having the highest number of points in the show.
Hannah Mortimer won a special effort award for entering the most junior classes.
Former society president Peggy Goodchild won a certificate of merit in the vegetable classes.
