A BMW driver who was arrested after a fatal crash on the A20 has been bailed.

The 20-year-old man was driving a silver coupe when it was in collision with a green Ford Escort which had broken down in the outside lane near Crittalls Corner.

An ambulance took the Escort’s driver to Queen Mary’s Hospital after the incident at around 3am on Friday (November 7).

But the motorist, who was in his 20s, was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

Police arrested the BMW driver and his passenger, a 19-year-old man, on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

They have released the 19-year-old without charge and bailed the driver to reappear at Bromley police station on January 21 pending further investigation.

The collision came one hour after a 25-year-old driver was taken to hospital after crashing through the central reservation on the same stretch of road.

Emergency services were called after a blue Peugeot 206 convertible skidded on the A20 London bound and crashed through the central reservation, at 2.06am.

The driver of the car was taken to Queen Mary’s Hospital with serious head injuries.

Two passengers in the car escaped without injury.

Road closures were in place at Junction 1 of the M20 and Junction 3 of the M25 at the Swanley Interchange after the accidents, but the road was re-opened just after noon.
