RESIDENTS are being reminded about changes to the benefit system.
Since the end of last month, all parents who get Housing or Council Tax Benefit can keep all of their child maintenance without it affecting their benefits.
Previously, maintenance payments above £15 a week reduced benefit entitlement.
The changes mean that people who could not previously get benefits because they received child maintenance may now be able to get some help, and customers already receiving benefits will get extra help.
Greenwich Council is warning that though some claimants should have their benefits adjusted automatically, others may have to make a new claim.
To claim housing or council tax benefit ring 020 8921 4900.
For more information about tax credits and benefits ring Greenwich Council’s public advice line for borough residents on 020 8317 4872.
