PEOPLE who have taken part in armed conflicts up to 1994 are being urged to claim their Veterans’ Badge.
The lapel badges were launched by the MoD in 2004 but so far only 473 have been issued to people in Bexley.
Those entitled to claim a Veterans Badge are: men and women who enlisted in the armed forces before December 1994; all those who served during the Second World War as Merchant Navy seamen, Home Guard, Polish forces under UK command and members of the Cyprus Regiment.
Widows and widowers who receive a war widows’ or widowers’ pension, veterans of the Suez Canal Zone and those on National Service between 1939 to 1945 are also eligible.
The badges are not awarded posthumously.
Howard Dawber, Labour’s candidate for the Bexleyheath and Crayford constituency, said: “These men and women served our country with such distinction over the years.
“The Veterans’ Badges are a token of our appreciation.”
