KATE Grimes, chief executive of the beleaguered Queen Mary’s Hospital is leaving.
The hospital trust announced this week that Ms Grimes has been appointed the new head of Kingston NHS Hospital Trust in Surrey.
Ms Grimes, who has been at the Sidcup hospital for three years, has spent virtually the whole of her time tackling the hospital’s problems.
When she arrived Queen Mary’s was facing massive debts and she was forced to announce a series of redundancies.
There are also plans to merge the hospital trust with those at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich, and The Princess Royal in Farnborough.
No date has been set for her departure but Ms Grimes says she will be sorry to leave.
She said: “The trust is a fantastic place to work and I am privileged to have had the opportunity to lead the staff during a period of change.
“I am optimistic we have been able to secure Queen Mary’s future as a quality healthcare provider for local residents.”
The hospital currently faces the threat of losing all its emergency services under the A Picture of Health proposals, and building a new reputation as a centre for planned surgery.
